As a non-profit, community-based hospice and palliative care provider, Carolina Caring offers world class health care that honors your loved one while providing the care and support you need. Our flexible, compassionate health care teams are here to care for those living with serious illness.
Both hospice and palliative care offer physical, emotional and spiritual support for those with a serious illness. These services can offer comfort and relief when the side effects of treatment appear to outweigh its benefits. While palliative care is available at any stage of an illness, hospice care begins during the final stages of a terminal illness.
Certain medical events can trigger the need for support from our hospice and palliative care team. We are often asked to speak to families when incidents like these occur: heart failure, stroke, malignant cancers, advanced COPD, Parkinson’s disease, end-stage renal failure, liver disease, Alzheimer’s and dementia, bone metastasis, aspiration pneumonia and septicemia.
In-home care is available, but a patient can receive care in hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, specialized clinics, assisted living centers and more.
If you are receiving palliative medicine services you may receive care from Nurse Practitioners Patricia Bortnick, FNP-C, ACHPN and Tisha Fisher, FNP-C. If you are a hospice patient, a health care team will be assigned to assist you and your loved ones.
Medicare, Medicaid and many private insurers often help with the cost of hospice and palliative care. Hospice patients often use their Medicare Hospice Benefit to cover the cost of care for a terminal illness and related conditions. This benefit also covers most medical equipment including walkers, wheelchairs, hospital beds, oxygen and more.
