A Reduced Financial Burden Can Help Bring Peace of Mind
While cost should not drive the decision to choose hospice or palliative care, many people are helped by the reduced financial burden it can bring. Medicare and other insurance plans may cover everything you need related to hospice care. There is often a co-payment/co-insurance for palliative care visits to a patient’s home depending on the insurance that the patient carries.
If you are receiving palliative medicine services you may receive care from a local nurse practitioner. If you are a Hospice patient, a health care team will be assigned to assist you and your loved ones.
Palliative care focuses on symptom management to improve quality of life at any stage of illness and help patients maintain the ability to do what they enjoy. It often reduces depression and anxiety as compared to standard care because it allows patients to retain as much control as is reasonable while providing an extra layer of support.
